About

Welcome to the McLhinney’s Speakeasy Museum.  We re-opened our doors in July, 2016 and the business was operated by the McLhinney family, who have lived in the city since the 1800s. In Spring, 2018 the museum was given to its final planned location, a brew pub next door!  The museum will be part of a permanent historical display.

We look forward to the day you can once again view the information contained in the museum. When you walk through the doors of that beautiful restored historically significant building, visitors will instantly feel at ease to linger and relax.  Within those walls you will find the history of the Prohibition Era in Havre de Grace.

Please feel free to enjoy our man corner, designed for the friend/husband who does not enjoy shopping.  Come in, sit down, read our historical information, and feel free to browse our great gift section.

Watch for news on the brew pub!

Grand Plan.   We did it!

The Grand Plan is to continue gathering items for the museum to be moved next door to the second floor of the Remax Building, also owned by the McLhinney’s, and once a real speakeasy. Still upstairs and intact are betting boards where race track bets were noted and many other trinkets from this era that remain intact and untouched. The McLhinney’s being in the news distribution business saved everything from this era onwards!

Brew Pub with McLhinney’s Speakeasy Museum

to become part of Havre de Grace Historical Fun!

The family was seeking historical grants and investors (sold in Spring, 2018) to restore the three-story building.  The new owners intend to develop a brew pub, meeting facility, and roof top lounge.

In the meantime, come visit and shop in beautiful downtown Havre de Grace where parking is curbside and the gifts are one-of-a-kind!

Make an evening of it and enjoy our new Speakeasy Self-Walking Tour & Pub Crawl on the last Saturday of October, November, and December.
